Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen
Monday 3rd July, 2023
The rest of the afternoon was spent at Rosenberg Castle and Treasury.
History tells us that Rosenborg was built as a pleasure palace by King Christian IV in the early 17th century and many of the furnishing are overly ornate and reflect the pomp and circumstance of monarchy during his reign and his son Frederick III. But from the 1700s Rosenborg was no longer used as a royal residence, it was used for the kings to store their oldest, finest and rarest objects to showcase the wealth and status of the Danish-Norwegian kingdom in Europe. Rosenborg was opened to the public as a museum in 1838.
The gardens and the grounds were also beautiful.
As a tourist attraction, being in central Copenhagen city, means that even during weekdays it is very busy here. Your ticket was timed and you had to line up at the entry point at the exact time for your ticket, which meant it could be a 30 minute delay from buying your ticket till your entry time.
As you will see by the following pictures and videos most rooms had lots of people in them. Also it will be evident how overtly lavish and opulent were the rooms and furnishings.
And finally we are inside …
