Carlstens Fastning

Carlstens Fastning

The castle is like Sweden’s “Dover Castle”, We had a wonderful day.  From our camp site it was about a 10 minute walk into the little town of Marstrand.  From there you take a 2 minute ferry ride across to the island and walk up the hill to the castle.  The ferry ride is literally 2 minutes, the town on both sides is very small, very beautiful, with little eateries, a few small tourist shops and big and small boats moored everywhere.  Sailing and boating is a major attraction in this area.

The view from the top of the castle is well worth the climb to the top.

We found a great little restaurant overlooking the harbour to have lunch. Gill had one of their specialties…it’s an open top rye sandwich, stacked with shrimp and salad.

Getting off the ferry on the way over, we just followed the crowd and soon realised they were going to someone’s wedding. So we just walked passed the little church like we knew what we were doing.

A fabulous day.

Looking back at the castle on the ferry ride home.  It is a very beautiful location.
