Copenhagen- Day 1

 The first day in Copenhagen

Monday 3rd July, 2023

We spent the day just looking around, getting to know a bit where we are, getting a Copenhagen card, etc

OH the Copenhagen card give you free travel on all buses, trains, ferries, etc also access into most of the attractions.  About $50/day…it’s been saving us about $100 a day, because we’re visiting museums, palaces, etc. Just the trains by themselves would be $25.

City Hall

Visited the City Hall, the best bit of this is where they do the marriages…the quick ones.  I sat there for some time just enjoying watching the ladies in their wedding dresses going in and coming back out…..never seen so many smiles.  Five minutes for the long ceremony and three minutes for the short one.  Talk about quickie weddings.

Beautiful mosaic tiled archway.

The staircase was an artwork.

Also in City Hall is the World Clock, a magnificent instrument of meticulous design.

Inside one of the small church’s in town - Trinitatis Church

The Round Tower

Built in the 17th century by King Christian IV, primarily as an astronomical observatory and is still used today I amateur astronomers and is the oldest observatory in Europe. The top of the tower is surrounded by an outdoor platform which gives fantastic 360 degree views over the old tow area of Copenhagen.
To get to the top you go up its equestrian staircase, a 7.5-turn helical corridor leading to the top platform. Stories are that it was built like this so the king could ride his horse up there.  Another story says that a Russian Tsar did ride his horse up.  Who knows which story is true, however.

And Day 1 continues in the next post on Rosenberg Castle …
