Christiansborg Palace - Copenhagen - Day 2

Christiansborg Palace

Tuesday, 4th July, 2023

Yes another castle but WOW.  The palace is actually made up of a number of buildings:

  • The Palace
  • The Palace Chapel
  • The Royal Stables
  • The Royal Kitchens
  • The Ruins
  • The Royal Reception Rooms
  • Thorvaldsens museum
  • The Royal Theatre Museum
  • The Parliament
  • The Tower

To wander our way around the different buildings took us the entire day and it could easily take longer.  There is just so much stuff. OH when I say an entire day I mean one of our days.  So about 6 hours minus luncheon and coffee breaks…you can’t make it too stressful.

There is so much that you end up only taking pictures of a small percentage.  The sculptures, tapestries, paintings, furniture, ceilings, etc.  In some areas I didn’t take a picture at all, I just found a corner and soaked up the view.

You could easily have a separate blog on each of the buildings, but I’ll give a bit of a flavour of each.

The Palace

19 major rooms and 3 times this in smaller ones, etc.

In the top section of The Tower

In the Reception Rooms and Palace you had to wear little blue bootie shoe covers.

The Palace Chapel

This chapel is the most elegant I’ve ever seen.  Very beautiful.  I believe Mary christened her children here.

The three museums

I usually don’t like museums I find them boring, but these WOW.  Some of the exhibits blew me away.

Like the 150 plus seal rings.  One of their kings collected the seal rings….eg back in the day to seal a letter they would put a dob of wax and press their ring into the wax.

Or Jesus and the 12 apostles that are carved in stone and are 20 foot tall…ish.

Or 10meter long wall statues..of which there were many.
