The Difference is 30 Km

We got mixed up between the 2 different places. We knew that they were a long away apart, but we thought the palace would be full of all the grand rooms. We found out that the palace isn’t open to the public, the gardens and park areas are, but that’s it. So Saturday was a walk through grand parklands. The park was full of locals enjoying the sunshine.
Frederiksberg Palace….(arr park)
Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerod
Monday, 10th July, 2023
Well we did finally find the right Castle. 30km north of Copenhagen at Hillerod. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as good as our walk in the Fredriksberg parklands. After we had finished inside the palace, 1hr 30 minutes later the rain was coming down steady and stayed that way for a few hours. So we weren’t able to do a tour of the extensive gardens. The castle itself however was well worth the visit, not disappointing at all.
The main entry is a very ornate carved door.
Towards the back gardens.
The Chapel
Other rooms
According to the floor plan brochure there are at 84 marked rooms open for viewing. This still doesn’t count hallways and stairways, cellars, etc. that were also had artwork and stunning ceilings.
I took over 280 photos and videos on our visit to Frederiksborg Castle, obviously too many, and even the photos included in this blog don’t cover every room.
It was amazing to see all these priceless artworks and antiques furnishings all displayed openly and not covered by glass cases and barriers as so many other castles and palaces have been. Considering how many children there were wandering through the rooms they have placed a lot of trust in people to not touch items.
An amazing chandelier!!
The Great Hall
This was another amazing room, the photos cannot do justice to its grandeur and size.
Sneaky pic of the view of the back gardens from the Great Hall window.
3rd Floor Art Gallery
Many rooms filled with photo exhibitions and historic portraits, paintings. I am including only one, because it is a beautiful painting of Australia’s Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, born in Hobart, who most of you will have heard of.
