Moved to Stonehenge area
Staying at a cheaper park for 3 nights, looks a bit ruff and ready, but it is very quiet, good amenities, only a small number of pitches. I think it’s been a good pick.
It was only 10 minutes drive from the van park to the Stonehenge Visitor Centre. A very nice drive with green hills and fields of total yellow.
Stonehenge
Everyone knows Stonehenge, it has to be one of the most recognisable things in the world. 800,000 plus visits per year. Some of my friends said don’t bother “it's just some rocks standing up”. The site is old, very old, They're not sure who put the stones there, it was done well before the druids and they were before the celts. The stones come from a site 32 miles away. The Stonehenge we know is the 30 or so large standing stones, but the site actually covers a much larger area and includes other earthworks and mounds or "barrows" as they have been named.
Luckily we arrived early in the day at 9:30am, and the sun was out, but it was bloody windy though which still carried a chill. Even then the bus loads of people arriving was continual. The lineup for the shuttle bus up to the Stones was already very long.
We toured the Visitor Centre and the outside with their display of recreated buildings. Lots of volunteers around who happily chatted about the site.
Oh, they also had fresh cooked English Cornish pasties in the cafe ....yum!!!
Neolithic building
At the Visitor Centre they have a recreation of some Neolithic buildings.
I found a local in my hut.
World War One Memorial located on the roadside on the walk up to the Stones.
Cheers from The Perry's at Stonehenge.
