Flam and Bergen

 Flam and Bergen

After 2 days of rain, the skies cleared up and gave us some sunny weather.  Motorhome is the way to travel, we met people off cruise ships that had had no option.  Cruise over and all they had seen was rain.

Travel Exercise

We got some good travel exercise travelling to Flam.
  • Bus from Bratlandsveien into Nesttun Sentrum Station
  • Light rail to Bergen Train Station
  • Train to Myrdal
  • The Flam Railway to Flam
  • Bus up to the spectacular Stegastein Look-out
  • Bus back down to Flam
  • Ferry from Flam to Bergen
  • Light Rail back to Nesttun Sentrum Station
  • Bus back to Bratland

All very worth while.. A great day. Check out the video’s and Pictures. Some spots were just WOW.

Finished up the day to the fish market’s restaurants at 9pm (still day light).  The fish market is cool, but the range was less than you’d find at Gasworks.  Very nice meal, a strong B rating I’d give them.

Travel on the train to Myrdal

Inside Bergen Train Station

Our train

Check out the picture perfect reflection in the water in this video.

The halfway point Voss.

Getting closer to Myrdal the train was at its highest altitudes and we encountered some snow and iced over waterways.  Such a dramatic change for the previous bright green fields.

The Flam Railway and Waterfall

The train was very full.  It is a very popular tourist attraction.  The major highlight of the Flam Railway (Flåmsbana) experience is the stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall, it is a 93m hourglass-shaped waterfall, the ride features many other waterfalls also.

Perry’s at Kjosfossen.

The story goes the a troll women would beckon the warriors into the water and too their death.  So with about 100 people standing on the platform beside the Flam train. We got Gill in the front row. They play the music and a women does a dance.  Add’s to the tourist value…I suppose.
