Stockholm Part 2

Last day at Stockholm

Wednesday 28th June, 2023

It was another big day trying to tick a few more places off our Stockholm list.

The Riddarholmen Church

The Riddarholmen Church is the final resting place of the Swedish kings, and is Stockholm’s only preserved medieval abbey.  With the one exception of Queen Christina, all succeeding rulers of Sweden from Gustav II Adolf (died 1632) to Gustaf V (died 1950) are buried here.  Also a couple of kings from the Middle Ages, 1470 are also buried here.

So basically it was a church filled with burial tombs and crypts.

After this there was lots of walking across town, which involved a coffee stop and then a lunch stop.
So many beautiful buildings. The architecture in Stockholm is amazing. It is a very well laid out city, lots of parks and plaza type squares.

Parliament House

Parliament House

Where we had lunch.  Another beautiful building, inside is full of gourmet food shops and cafes.

City Hall

One of the most visited buildings in Stockholm.  This is where they hold the Nobel Prize dinner.  The actual prize ceremony takes places about 30 minutes away and then the official dinner banquet is held here at the City Hall.  The King and Queen, state officials and the Nobel Prize nominees and winners.  Usually about 1500 people.

This is where the Nobel Prize banquet is held.

Council Chambers

The most WOW room.  All the walls are individual mosaics.  Done with tiny tiles.
