Bath

 Bath

Firstly responses to some of the questions.

Mal asked - what was the protest about.

It was to stop the expansion of the Heathrow airport. But at the moment in the UK there is a lot of unrest. Strikes are happening all over regularly, the cost of living since Brexit has gone through the roof.  Everywhere in London there was extra security in place, attractions like Trafalgar Square had barricades and extra security.  We gathered that its because of the King’s coronation.

On Sunday they tested a new warring system.  The government can send an alarm and notification to all mobile phones in a given area. Sunday they tested it across the entire country, we were sitting in a pub when our phone and every other phone in the place all went off at the same time.  A bit scary!  They said that there was a football match with 45,000 people and at half time every phone went off.

Arrived in Bath

Drove Bailey from Swindon to Bath to stay in a caravan park.  The park is beside the river, has a marina attached to the park where they keep narrow boats.  On our first night in the Motorhome it was an absolute shambles, we had stuff everywhere. As it was getting late we thought we’d sleep and clean things up on the following day.  So at about 9pm we got into bed and set the vehicle security alarm.  The alarm immediately went off, so I jumped up and pressed the button on the key to stop it.  30seconds later the Motorhome self locked and the alarm went off again.  This happen a number of times.  Remember we’re parked in the middle of an extra quiet park, waking everyone up.  Gill and me grabbing for our manuals to find out what to do. Learnt there is a button on the dash, not the key fob to use at night.

ScottyT was telling me about small roads in the UK, he wasn’t wrong.   On the way to Bath we went down one road where the Motorhome tyres were nicking the edge of the road,  the brush on the side of the road was nicking the side of the van and cars were going the opposite way at 50 miles and hour.  I had fun but my girl was a bit scared.   We now have a Tom Tom Expert that has the ability to route trucks and vans  around the smaller roads….we’ll see if it works.

The Motorhome Park

Wow The park is beside a river and a narrow boat marina. Very beautiful and quiet.

Bath Abbey

The abbey is something very special. None of the photos do it justice, it awe inspiring just sitting inside, looking up at the incredible ceiling, stained glass, etc, etc. The size and height of the entire building is breath-taking.  I’m glad I didn’t have to tender this one.
Sitting in a very nice coffeehouse having a chai latte and a piece of carrot cake, just soaking up the view. It’s a hard life!

We have lots and lots of pictures, but here are just a few.

Roman Bath House

The Roman Bath House is incredible, a must see, looking at the layer upon layer of construction.  How the Romans turned a simple hot aquifer into their bath house.  Very cool!

Our Friends at a concert in Oz while we’re, have breakfast looking over what happened in Oz the day before.

We’re off to Cheddar

But this is the next blog.

The Adventure Starts Here

The adventure starts here

Well the day finally arrived.!

The flight over was a long one, went Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Heathrow. 26 hours flying time.

We stayed in Heathrow for the first few days so we can get over the jet lag and to sort out the final bits and pieces. (Like getting local comms operational, collect the UK mail, etc)  Thought we’d have a little look around London while we’re here though.

On the weekend we hired a car and drove across to Swindon to pick up our new Bailey Adamo 69-4.  Then heading off to Bath but this will be the next post.

The Blog

The idea of the blog, is a place where we can share what we’re up to with family and friends and not the whole world.

I’ve left open the add comments, so feel free to have your say.

We’ll try and do a post weekly…but no promises.

Side Bar in the Blog

In the side bar to the right is our info pages.  The Basic Itinerary page. shows what we’re intending to ……sorter do.  The other pages have my notes and links to information I‘ll need along the way. Some of the links in these are password protected.

Some Sights along the way

Swindon’s Magic Roundabout

We drove through the Swindon Magic Roundabout a number of times.  It’s 5 small roundabouts, around a central larger roundabout that goes the opposite way. I must say “there was leakage” driving up to it, but  it’s actually quit easy.
